on yer bike

i got a new bike last week! a 1968 candy green supercycle that is nowhere near as sick as the bikes pictured here, but hey, the price was right :) the hubby and i took a maiden voyage out to the islands (Toronto islands) on the weekend and rode around for 4 hours sans sunscreen (idiots). now we affectionately refer to each other as Tomato Face and Lobster Claw due to the lesson-teaching sunburns we received, but we still had a marvelous time. these bikes from Electra are just three of an incredible selection of the sweetest bikes in the universe.

and this is the suitcase i wish i had to carry a picnic and some reading material for the ride (along with a big giant bottle of SPF 50 :)

if polygamy were legal # 32

if polygamy were legal, i would have to hire ever wedding officiant in the city, because i want to marry every single piece that Lena Hoschek has ever created. i found this designer via Q's Daydream and when i visited Lena's website my head nearly exploded. sadly, they only seem to sell their clothing in Europe, Saudi Arabia and Japan :( looks like i've got a trip to plan. a destination wedding, if you will :)

draw me a perfect saturday

please forgive me for neglecting the blog as of late. i blame spring. you know how it is, all this sunshine n fresh air. 'course it's chilly n grey today, so here sits i...

a warm welcome to friday, as is customary, and great anticipation for tomorrow when i'll be heading to the Toronto Comic Arts Festival! i'm a bit broke at the moment, but i suspect i'll find some way to leave with a stack of reading material regardless. there are two artists i particularly look forward to seeing at tomorrow's event, the first of whom being Shannon Gerard (work pictured above and below).

i have been a fan of Shannon's work since i came across her booth at Word on the Street some odd years ago. i bought one of everything she had at the time cuz it was so fantastic and bloomin cheep, too. this time around, Shannon will be promoting her latest work, as illustrator of Sword of my Mouth, by Jim Munroe. visit Shannon's website for more information and links to her etsy site and all the other wonderful things she does.

the second artist i'm rather excited to see is Julia Scheele, a UK based illustrator whom i discovered through her contributions to How Fucking Romantic, the Magnetic Fields project i posted about back in January. see Julia's portfolio here, and visit her blog too.

so please do click on the images to enlarge, and i wish you exciting Saturdays of your own. if there's anyone from Toronto reading this, i hope to see you at the comic fest! take care :)

andrew ek

if you live in the Chicago area at the moment, then you are one lucky bird and i envy you greatly, for you can see Andrew Ek's painting's in person until May 15th. see his website for details of the show as well as many more breathtaking works. there is a certain intimacy to his paintings that makes me want to climb inside them and live there instead. would anyone care to join me? :)
