dame gena
the newest induction to the Loose Leaf Tigers Hall of Dames is the ever vibrant, intellegent and captivating Gena Rowlands, star of stage and sceen since the broadway version of the Seven Year Itch in 1956. Gena made her film debut in The High Cost of Loving in 1958. her catalog grew to include numerous movies and tv appearances, including 10 films with husband John Cassavetes, to whom she was married for 35 years, until his death in 1989. this mother and grandmother has been nominated for 2 oscars, 6 emmies and 8 golden globes.
if you're not familiar with miss Rowlands' work, i highly reccomend the following films:
A Woman Under the Influence (1974) - (arguably one of the best performances of all time, for which she was nominated for a best actress oscar)
Once Around (1991) - from director Lasse Hallstrom (What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat...)
Night On Earth (1991) - from another of my favourite directors: Jim Jarmusch
Gena is also the voice of Marjane's grandmother in Persepolis (2007), which i have not yet seen, but do intend to...
She is so beautiful, I will have to watch her new movie.
