all the king's women #7 - barbara eden

born Barbara Jean Morehead on August 23, 1934, Eden had numerous roles in forgetable films throughout the 50s and 60s, but is best known for her role in the television series I Dream of Jeanie (1965-1970). for five years and 139 episodes, Barbara played a well meaning and lovable Jeanie, rescued by an astronaut, whose magical powers often ran amuck. hilarity ensued.

in 1960, Barbara played the part of Roslyn Pierce in Elvis' sixth film, Flaming Star (a western in which Elvis plays a "half-breed"). Eden replaced Barbara Steele in the role, who walked off the picture after an argument with director Don Siegel. Andy Warhol's famous diptych of Elvis as a cowboy comes from a Flaming Star still.

I Dream of Jeannie has gone on to become one of the most successful series in international syndication, earning Barbara many fans all over the world. Eden now lives in California with her third husband. her only son Matthew (son of first husband, Michael Ansara) died of a drug overdose in 2001, at 36 years old.
