all the king's women # 23 - yvonne craig

born in May of 1937 in Taylorville, Illinois, Yvonne Craig began her career as a ballet dancer in the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as a young teenager. in 1957, Yvonne left the company and moved to L.A. where she was soon cast in movies and television. in 1959 she appearred in 3 films: The Young Land, opposite a young Dennis Hopper; The Gene Krupa Story, in which Krupa, played by Sal Mineo, utters the memorable line "Reefers huh? So that's what they look like"; and the original Gidget.

in 1960, Craig married actor Jimmy Boyd, whom she met on the set of High Time with Bing Crosby. following their divorce just 2 years later, Yvonne starred in a number of films, including supporting roles in not one, but two Elvis films: It Happened at the World's Fair (1963) with Joan O'Brien, and the afore mentioned hideously awful Kissin Cousins (1964) with Glenda Farrell.

but Yvonne's real and lasting fame would come from her role as Batgirl in the final season of TV's Batman. this, coupled with her role as the green-skinned Orion in third season of Star Trek, garnered the actress a loyal cult following.

in the years following Batman, Yvonne made various TV and movie appearrances, eventually moving into private business as a coproducer of industrial shows, and later in real estate. you can visit her website here.
