the day the earth stood still

33 years ago today, a great beacon of generosity and creativity fell dim. but in the 42 short years in which it beamed, that light shone so far and so bright as to never be extinguished. each year on this day, thousands gather at the home of Elvis Presley in candlelit vigil, to remember the life of one who touched so many. they walk in single file, up the driveway of Graceland to the meditation gardens where Elvis and his family lay in rest. folks of all ages and from all walks of life, brought together in remembrance; their tiny lights reflected back at him in thanks.

R.I.P. Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977)
