argh!

k, there's something wrong with blogger right now and all my sidebar stuff is moved to the bottom of my blog. don't have time to mess around with it right now 'cause i'm at work, but you can bet i'll be toiling away at it when i get home. likely time for an overhall anyway! xo

this isn't what it looks like

artist Alexa Meade uses human models and acrylic paint to “perceptually compress three dimensional space into a two dimensional plane”. the results are astonishing, wouldn't you say? see more here.

decidedly weird vintage valentines

happy valentines day! this isn't a holiday i actively participate in for a whole mess o reasons i would verbalize if not for fear of raining on your parades, but i do have a love of vintage valentine cards, and as far as i'm concerned, the weirder the ephemera, the better...

and now for the strangest valentine i have ever laid eyes on:

brocken spectre

i just learned of this amazing phenomena know to mountaineers as Brocken Spectre (named after a peek in the harz mountains of Germany), which occurs when the shadow of a person at high altitudes is cast upon clouds at a lower altitude. i'd never heard of this before and now i desperately want to experience it. awesome, no?

marai-chan

these riduculously adorable photographs were taken by Kotori Kawashima of Tokyo, Japan. Kotori’s book, Mirai-Chan (2010) is a collection of photographs of her sweet-faced and highly expressive daughter Mirai-Chan, doing the usual things a wee lass of her age might do: eating, sleeping, running around. too cute. there should be a warrant out on this kid.

video vendredi turns japanese

kay, i'm not sure what to make of this, but it appears that Kirsten Dunst is branching out :/ if i'm to be prefectly honest, i think the song is effing terrible, but she looks adorable (if not also slightly ridiculous) and the video is heaps of fun! happy friday darlings!

sparkling lights over paris

last September, French conceptual artist Michel de Broin produced the world's largest disco ball (7.5 metres, with 1000 wee mirrors) and suspended it on a crane 50 metres above the night sky of Paris in the Jardin du Luxembourg. the ball, which de Broin called La Maîtresse de la Tour Eiffel, was then lit with spotlights from all across the city, sending beams of light dancing over Paris. click here to see a magical video of the ball in action.

video vendredi - mameshiba

i found this series of bizarre, ridiculously adorable videos from Japan, and now i can't stop watching them. youtube has a bunch more of them in case they tickle your fancy. so bloomin' cute!

Mameshiba ("mama" meaning bean & "shiba" meaning dog) is the latest character sweeping Japan. there are all sorts of useless but adorable products available as well, like this one, which i clearly need.

a throne fit for a peacock

the peacock chair by Victoria Fang is the first in a series of chairs that integrate physical objects with art and technology. sensors in an antique chair cause the peacock feathers to open when someone sits down. magical.
