alone in the woods

i suppose it's the weather, or the fact that it's been almost a year since my last vacation, but i cannot stop daydreaming about my upcoming camping trip. it's all i think about, and it's still a month away! i just can't wait to put everything i need in my trusty backpack and hit the road. backpacking is something i once did for months at a time, but now that i'm older and have a condo, job, dog and cat, i cherish whatever time i can get away for, even if it's just a few precious days.

we were originally planning on going with some friends, but it's looking like it'll just be my husband and i, alone in the woods. i look forward to moments like these:

lasagne and tulips

it's strange. the past two days i've wanted to write, but i just haven't had anything to say. feeling a bit dazed. could be all the homemade lasagne i stuffed in my belly this weekend. or the fact that my husband bought an xbox on friday and we kinda zoned out in front of it for three straight days. either way, i'm hoping to be back to my usual energy level tomorrow. in the meantime, i'm not sure where this image came from, but it's what i feel like looking at right now. pretty, huh?

hope you all had marvelous weekends full o' tulips n ballerinas (or lasagne n xbox, whatever turns yer crank ;)

video vendredi - the organ

if you're unfamiliar with the now defunct Vancouver rock band the Organ, then you're in for a very special treat. if you're a Smiths fan to boot, then you're really gonna like this. imagine if the Smiths were all women. if they were, they would probably have sounded like the Organ. the band broke up in 2006. which sucks. 'cause they were awesome. have a listen and let me know what you think! awesome, right?

[this first video is an amateur you-tube thingy, but the song is one of my favourites]

hall of dames - judy dench

the purpose of my hall of dames was really to crown new dames, rather than to list actual dames, but Judy Dench is someone i would have crowned myself, were she not already recognised as such, and so i am inducting her presently. some of you may roll your eyes at such a choice, and to you i must explain three things:

1) i am half English, and so have a natural and genetic pull toward the wee magnets deep within Judy's molecular structure.
2) dame Dench reminds me very much of my marvelous english mum, whom i love and adore.
3) anyone who hasn't explored Judy's earlier works (i.e. those before that retchid shakespeare in love thing), simply do not know what they're missing.
And so, without further adue, i knight thee 'Dame Dame Judy Dench'. :)

(ph)ursday - eugenio recuenco

i discovered a photographer the other day whose range and depth blew my frickin' mind. Eugenio Recuenco is doubtlessly very famous in the photography world, so those of you who know photographers' names probably know his well. for me, it was a joy to discover the massive and diverse library of photos on his website. this man can clearly do just about anything. choosing which photos to post here was ridiculously difficult. you simply must visit the site for yourself to truly understand what i'm getting at.

rene lynch - the secret life of the forest

perhaps it's because i'm reading Twilight right now [that's right. i'm thirty three years old and reading a book about vampires in highschool. and enjoying it too, much to my chagrin.] but my mind keeps wandering to the cool, damp stillness of the forest. all i can think of is driving out to the woods and wandering into them. living in the big city has it's drawbacks. alas, i won't be feeling the soft earth beneath my feet until June.

in the meantime, i shall be content to lose myself in the paintings of Rene Lynch, whose series entitled The Secret Life of the Forest calls the viewer back into the woods of adolescence...

wednesday's child is full of woe

not to worry, i'm feeling quite cheery today actually, that's just the way the poem goes. besides, i was born on a sunday. i wonder: are there any wednesday babies out there reading this? tell me, are you full of woe? i certainly hope not.

if polygamy were legal # 8

is it just me, or are these marc jacobs boots lookin' to elope? 'course i couldn't afford to marry these boots even if i wanted to :)

travel tuesdee - art hotel, berlin

the Propeller Island City Lodge in Berlin, Germany is one of many 'art hotels' popping up all over the world. this hotel has some incredibly interesting rooms, ranging from the eccentric to the truly bizarre. my favourites (which are some of the most ordinary), are the monochromatic rooms pictured above. you can see these and more of their rooms here.

tuesday's child is full of grace [kelly]

unfortunately, i'm not sure where i found these images, as i've had them for quite som time, but if anyone is aware of the sources i'd be happy to post them :)
for now, let's just enjoy their lovliness, shall we?
