something to look forward too that i never knew existed

photos above by Carlo Caponi

if you've not yet visited Greetz from Tiz, the marvelous blog of one fabulous young woman in Italy, then by all means do so. i was over there today when i read this post about the Summer Jamboree in Senigallia, Italy.

apparently, Senigallia revisits 1950s America during this festival in Piazza del Duca square, with more than 30 free concerts and 100 artists, dance classes and a huge Hawaiian-style party on the beach! even Dita attends!

had anyone heard of this before? i certainly hadn't, and i'm pretty frickin' excited about it! a big 50s festival? and in Italy?! yes please. so go check out the photos Tiz has posted, and if you can read Italian, have a look at this blog.

i hate cooking. don't like cleaning much either. (lucky for me, my husband is a marvelous chef, or i'd be eating frozen pizza n chunky soup every damn day. ) but anthropologie has a bunch of aprons that are too scrumptious to resist! i may have to enter the kitchen after all...

(ph)ursday - milton h greene

i'm certain many of you are familiar with the work of fashion and celebrity photographer Milton H Greene, best know for his photoshoots with Marilyn Monroe (of whom he took over 5000 pictures). Greene was (and still is) one of the most celebrated photographers in the world. His artful fashion photography has appeared in all the major publications including Life, Vogue & Harpar's Bazaar, and he has imortalized a long list of legendary celebrities with his stunning portraits. you can read all about him here, and there's a giant archive of his photos here, but you must become a member to view them :(

here are some of my favourite portraits by Milton H. Greene:

Marlene Dietrich

Audrey Hepburn

Gregory Peck

Ava Gardner

Sophia Loren

Cary Grant

and of course, Marilyn

eric white

Eric White's work references found imagery (often that of 40's era Hollywood), in a surreal and at times disturbing, though always compelling melange of extraordinary skill and boundless imagination. in his own words, White creates "paintings about films about dreams about the neighbors." see more of Eric's work here.

all the king's women # 4 - judy tyler

born Judith May Hess in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Judy was no stranger to show business. her father played trumpet with the likes of Benny Goodman and Paul Whiteman, and her mother was a former Ziegfeld Follies dancer. she began acting as a teenager, appearing on Howdy Doody at 17, after which she returned to the stage where she was soon 'discovered'. Judy appeared in two films, the last of which was Elvis' third film, Jailhouse Rock (1957).

during the making of the film Elvis became infatuated with Judy, and the two spent a lot of time together on and off the set.

just three days after shooting was completed, Judy and her husband were driving home from Hollywood to New York when he swerved to avoid hitting a truck and collided with another. she died instantly, he the following morning; she just 23 years old, he 19. sadly, Judy never had the opportunity to see her performances in either of her two films. Elvis' friends say that he was so upset by her death that he couldn't bear to watch "Jailhouse Rock", and has never seen the film.
