andrey yakovlev

i'm enraptured by the lustrous hues of this editorial entitled L'Or, by Russian photographer Andrey Yakovlev. [click on images to enlarge] you can see more of his work here.

i heart armadillos

i've always loved these wierd little rollie pollie, prehistoric looking creatures. like a cross between an anteater and a potato bug. so bizarre. apparently i'm not alone. look at all the nifty armadillo stuff you can get on etsy...

hall of dames - tuesday weld

Born Susan Kerr Weld in New York, Tuesday's father died when she was very young and she began supporting her mother, brother and sister by working as a child model . Tuesday suffered a nervous breakdown at age 10, had become an alcoholic by the following year, and attempted suicide at 13. Fortunately, the free-spirited and highly underrated actress persevered, and went on to star opposite Elvis Presley, Steve McQueen and Gregory Peck, among others. Thrice married, once to actor Dudley Moore, her films span more than 40 years and include some truly charming performances. My favourite, of course, is her role in Wild In the Country, opposite Elvis.

hidden eloise

i don't normally do etsy posts that focus on one particular artist/seller, but i stumbled upon Hidden Eloise's shop the other day and i fell head over tootsies in love with her work, and had to share it with you. enjoy these images and go get some for yourself!

ryan mcginley

Ryan McGinley is officially my new favourite photographer. unfortunately, i'm not going to post any of my favourite photos here, as they all involve full frontal nudity :) but if you're alright with the flesh, you've got to go take a look at his website. his photos are so full of joy and freedom! they make me want to rip off my clothes and run around naked in the woods (which is truly not something i would be otherwise prone to do).

Ryan's photos of the clothed are equally marvelous, like these celebrity shots of Jennifer Jason Lee and Josh Brolin:

and last but not least, McGinley also has a series of photographs taken at Morrissey concerts (!). nuff said.

fox in the snow, where do you go?

bonjour! hope you all had a marvelous weekend! mine was so good, i need another one :)
i know it's barely summer now and i should really be posting warm and sunny things, but i've had this song in my head all morning and i needed to purge it from my system...

lilly piri

lately i find myself undeniably drawn to soft, dreamy, sundrenched palettes. must be the weather. the magical motifs and breezy colours of Australian artist Lilly Piri's drawings and paintings are no exception. it's easy to lose yourself in the world she has created. go on in.

monsoon

Monsoon seems to have a lot of nice wares. all of the items below and many more can be found here.

video vendredi - what's in a name?

it occured to me the other day that some of you may not recognize the words 'Poke Salad Annie' or know the glorious origins of my pseudonym. you may not have had the priveledge of hearing one of the most rousing and funktacular songs ever performed. remain in the dark no longer, for it is here.

there are many versions of this song as performed by Elvis, but this one is my favourite. it's fun and spontaneous and pretty frickin' kick-ass. i urge you to watch this video even if you are not a fan of the King, and to listen to the lyrics, 'cause they're wicked. :D

so now you know. and knowing is half the battle.
