gym jitters

tomorrow afternoon i will endeavour to do something i have never before attempted in my life: i will go to the gym. having put on 30 pounds in the last year, with no sign of slowing down, i have decided that the time has come to take control of my own body and strive toward health! trouble is, i'd rather eat poop than exercise. so i've signed up for a personal trainer(!). i'm thinkin' it's the only way i'll get this done. our first session is tomorrow and i'm absolutely terrified. i can't think of anything further from my own element. ugh.

any advice? perhaps someone has done the trainer thing and can tell me it aint so bad?

It's really kind of fun and it's easier with a trainer if you're not motivated because they keep you motivated! Good luck!

that's great you have a trainer. you will definitely show up when you know you have an appointment with someone. but i completely understand how you feel. i absolutely hate exercising and getting sweaty! i also hate being in "work out" clothing!

The great thing about having a trainer, is you don't have to think about your workout - they are paid to think for you and build a workout that will have results.

I have been working with a trainer for 10 months and it has been the best money I have ever spent.
Don't be put off if the first few sessions are hard- it will pay off. Good Luck!

It's not so bad. No pain, no gain!
Supposedly...

Unfortunately, nobody looks like Marilyn Monroe during, or after exercise. Funnily enough..

Good for you! How did it go? I've never used the free sessions my gym gives new members for signing a year contract. But I used to feel that way about just going to the gym, too. Like most things after a while it gets easier and more comfortable. I am now trying to get over the fear of the unknown in swimming laps and going to a yoga class! My only advice is to wear better support then Marilyn.

good for you!

i am in the same boat. we have a gym at work which i've been avoiding routinely for four years. but this week, i've managed to go three whole times. it is not easy!

so you've got my support!

thank you all so much for the encouragement! i really needed it :) the good news is, i made it through my first session, and it was suprisingly fun! it's a hell of a lot easier than working out on your own, that's for certain. this week i start a thrice a week regime. fitness, here i come!
